Indonesia records: Northern part of Obi Island (Maluku Sea) (Hansen 1910). Depth range: Closing vertical net, from 1000 m to the sea surface (Hansen 1910). General distribution: This species has a very wide distribution from the Benguela current to the north-west of Cape Town (Illig 1930), east of South Georgia, west of Walvis Bay, west of Orange River estuary (Africa) (O. S. Tattersall 1955), North Pacific Ocean (Birstein & Tchindonova 1958; Petryashov 2005), Japan (Ii 1964), Antarctic and Subantarctic waters (Petryashov 2007), Bay of Bengal (Biju & Panampunnayil 2011; Biju et al. 2014), Northeast Atlantic, Northwest Atlantic and Southeast Atlantic (Brandt et al. 2012).
