Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2. — General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Philippines and Solomon Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Western Australia and Queensland (Australia). Found in coastal waters over coral reefs, entering estuaries, 0 – 10 m depth. Transitional water and marine.

Distribution. Ranges from the southern Red Sea and Arabian Gulf in continental waters of south Asia to northwestern and northern Australia, throughout the Indo-Malayan region, and north to Okinawa.
