Circumglobal; western Pacific Ocean north to Japan (Senou in Nakabo 2002) and southern Kuril Islands (Savinykh 1998); eastern Pacific from Bahía Santa Maria (24 ° 40 ’ N, 112 ° 11 ’ W), southern Baja California (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California) to Chile (Pequeño 1989), including lower Gulf of California (Robertson and Allen 2002) and Islas Galápagos (Grove and Lavenberg 1997).
