Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Java (Indonesia) east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, in coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, resting in the open during the day, active at night, 1 – 35 m depth. Marine.
