Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Cocos-Keeling and Christmas islands (eastern Indian Ocean) east to Hawaiian and Line islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Found solitary, in pairs or in groups, in coral-rich areas of lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 2 – 30 m depth. Marine.
