Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Cocos-Keeling Islands (eastern Indian Ocean) and Indonesia east to Caroline Islands and Vanuatu, north to Philippines and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found solitary or in small groups, in coral-rich areas of coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 2 – 30 m depth. Marine.
