Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Maldives east to Mariana Islands, Kiribati (Phoenix Islands and Samoa, north to Taiwan and Yaeyama Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, at the edge of steep slopes of lagoons, passes, and seaward reefs, 3 – 90 m depth. Marine.
