Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Christmas and Cocos-Keeling islands (eastern Indian Ocean) east to Line Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in pairs, in coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1 – 45 m depth. Marine.
