Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Tuamotu Archipelago, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to southern Great Barrier Reef (Australia), New Caledonia and Rapa. Found on reef flats and in lagoon and seaward reefs, over coral, rock, pavement, or rubble substrates, 0 – 30 m depth. Marine.
