Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 4. — General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian, Line and Easter islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe, Norfolk and Austral islands. Found in groups, over hard bottoms covered with algae, on exposed reef flats and seaward coral reefs, 0 – 24 m depth. Marine.
