Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: South and East Africa, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Marshall, Society and Marquesas islands, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe Island and Tonga. Found in clear, coral-rich areas of lagoon and seaward reefs, hiding in deserted worm tubes or other small holes when alarmed, 0 – 75 m depth. Marine.
