Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Mozambique Channel, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Marquesas and Gambier islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales (Australia), Lord Howe Island, Tonga and Rapa. Found in aggregations above inshore and seaward coral reefs, 1 – 15 m depth. Marine.
