Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Wake Atoll and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe and Norfolk islands and Rapa. Found in coral-rich areas of inner lagoons and subtidal reef flats to seaward coral or rocky reefs, 1 – 40 m depth. Marine.
