Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Maldives and Sri Lanka east to Caroline Islands and Fiji, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Solitary or in small groups, in sand-rubble areas adjacent to coral reefs. Juveniles mimic Meiacanthus grammistes, 0 – 25 m depth. Marine.
