Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 4. — General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Marshall, northern Line and Tuamotu islands, north to southern Japan, south to Kimberleys (Western Australia), Lord Howe, Norfolk and Austral islands. Found on coral and rocky reefs, including areas with freshwater runoff, 0 – 30 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
